Kate Maddox, LMFT - Avalon Primary Therapist
Kate is a licensed marriage and family therapist specializing in addiction, anxiety, depression, codependency, and co-occurring disorders. She works with adults, adolescents, and families. Kate has been working in the recovery field for eight years and has a wide range of experience in residential treatment centers, family counseling centers, private practice, and juvenile facilities.
Kate uses CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy) to help clients identify and replace negative thoughts and beliefs that can contribute to anxiety, depression, addiction, and other disorders. Kate also incorporates DBT (dialectical behavioral therapy), which uses mindfulness, distress tolerance, and interpersonal skills to help clients regulate emotions.
In addition to working with individuals, Kate also provides counseling to family members who have been affected by addiction and mental health disorders. Kate helps family members understand how addiction and co-occurring disorders have affected the family system, and she supports them in taking care of their own needs.
