Dr. Michael Z. Mekjian, Ph.D. - Psychologist / Neuropsych Testing
Dr. Michael Mekjian completed his B.A., M.A., and Ph.D. degrees in California where he has been licensed as a Clinical Psychologist for 26 years – primarily working in the field of Neuropsychology. His training includes having participated in a one-year Externship Program in the Sepulveda Epilepsy Education Program and Cognitive Disorders Clinic at the Sepulveda Veterans Administration Hospital in California – working primarily with Veterans and their families.
Dr. Mekjian then went on to complete his full-time Internship at U.C. Irvine Medical Center, with training rotations in Inpatient Psychiatry, Neurology, and Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. He was then accepted into the Fellowship Training Program in Neuropsychology at the Neuropsychiatric Institute and Hospital at UCLA Medical Center, where he was appointed as Chief Fellow during his training. He also participated in additional training rotations on the Neurology Service at Children’s Hospital – Los Angeles, and the Infectious Diseases Service at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center – specializing in evaluating patients with a head injury, seizure disorders, brain tumors, dementia, learning disorders, and HIV.
After completing his training, Dr. Mekjian served on the Clinical Faculty as an Assistant Professor in the UCLA School of Medicine for 21 years, where he taught and supervised clinical Interns, Residents, and Fellows, and was also on the Clinical Staff at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center for 19 years. In addition to Dr. Mekjian’s experience working with patients with primary medical conditions, he also has extensive experience in conducting comprehensive neuropsychological evaluations for patients with primary psychiatric diagnoses, as well as those with chemical dependency issues, and assisting with diagnostic clarification and treatment recommendations within the context of a multi-disciplinary team approach.
