Living in recovery from addiction or a mental health disorder is a daily commitment — and much like other things in life, some days are better than others. Sometimes you will feel strong in your convictions, ready to take on life’s challenges no matter what they may be. Other times, you will experience vulnerability: stress at work or at home, a breakup or the loss of a loved one, an important anniversary or high-pressure event. An essential component of long-lasting recovery is understanding that these moments of emotional upheaval will happen, and accepting that your own coping skills may not always be enough to keep you on track.
At Avalon Malibu, we know that life is unpredictable and that every person dealing with addiction or mental illness will face times when they need professional assistance. When an individual’s concerns do not require full-time, 24-hour inpatient care, we offer that essential assistance through our intensive outpatient program at The Bluffs.
Led by the same team of skilled professionals that provide services at our world-class residential facilities, our intensive outpatient program, or IOP, offers clients high-quality care and structure while allowing them to live in our sober / transitional living environment. All outpatient programming offered at Avalon Malibu — including partial hospitalization and intensive outpatient treatment — is licensed by the California Department of Health Care Services (DHCS) and provides exceptional care for mental health and substance use disorders. Clients may enroll in our IOP following completion of a primary residential program, but this is not always a requirement. If you wish to learn more about admission to the intensive outpatient program at Avalon, please contact us at 888-958-7511 to speak with our team and find out how we can help you get the treatment you need.
Our program allows individuals to continue maintaining other obligations that are equally as important such as family, work or school. Our weekday scheduling is minimally disruptive to daily activities and leaves weekends and evenings free.
We have affordable outpatient options and accept certain types of insurance. Outpatient treatment is generally more affordable than residential treatment; however, residential treatment is often necessary during the first phases of addiction treatment.
Our intensive outpatient program allows individuals to grow alongside other members of the program. Each client will begin treatment with a full support system, and will continue to build this support throughout the entire journey of recovery.
Our intensive outpatient program is a part-time alternative for emotionally or chemically dependent individuals, who are 18 years or older and who need intensive, ongoing treatment but not residential care. Avalon’s outpatient facility is located in Malibu, a short distance from Los Angeles and several nearby Southern California cities, easily accessible along the Pacific Coast Highway. IOP clients should live within driving or public transportation distance of our facility, as they will be required to attend group and individual sessions throughout the week. Our outpatient addiction and mental health treatment program is ideal for people who:
And / Or
In particular, we recommend our IOP for two types of individuals. First, those who have recently completed a full-time or full-day primary treatment program, such as Avalon Malibu’s residential program, and who are looking for a transitional treatment option as they begin the adjustment to independent life. For these clients, IOP offers the flexibility needed to pursue work, school or family activities while remaining accountable to a treatment program and receiving regular, structured care.
The second type of individual is someone who has been through primary treatment in the past but is struggling in their recovery due to a challenging period in their life. Some of these patients clients have been through a mild relapse, while others are seeking treatment as a preventative measure. An IOP provides a more appropriate level of care for these clients, who often need a boost to get back on the right path of recovery but do not need the full life “reset” that comes from inpatient residential treatment.
Our helpful, compassionate and knowledgeable staff members are always available to answer your questions and connect you with the recovery resources most appropriate for your situation. We work with every potential client to assess their needs and recommend a level of care that will be effective. If you are seeking help for yourself or a loved one, or if you are a healthcare provider with a client to refer, we want to hear from you — contact our admissions team at 888-958-7511.
The IOP at Avalon Malibu is offered alongside our other signature levels of care: sub-acute medically supervised detoxification, and residential treatment for addiction recovery and mental health disorders. IOP is the least restrictive of our levels of care, providing treatment sessions on weekdays and allowing clients to attend to external responsibilities during the day and while living at home or in a sober / transitional living environment. Participants are required to complete a minimum number of treatment hours per week; sessions are mandatory as a key component of maintaining the structure and accountability of the program. Sessions include a variety of therapeutic activities including psychoeducation, individual therapy, group therapy and family therapy.
Our intensive outpatient program is a cost-effective alternative to expensive inpatient treatment. We have well-standing relationships with most PPO insurance companies.
