Joan Borysenko, Ph.D.
Joan Borysenko, Ph.D. is a consultant in program development providing scientific, psychological, and spiritual direction to Avalon by the Sea.
A renowned pioneer in the field of Integrative Medicine, Dr. Borysenko earned her doctorate in cellular biology from the Harvard Medical School, where she also completed three postdoctoral fellowships in cancer research, behavioral medicine, and psychoneuroimmunology. She is a licensed clinical psychologist, spiritual mentor, trainer of spiritual mentors, and the New York Times bestselling author of Minding the Body, Mending the Mind, based on her groundbreaking work as co-founder of one of the first hospital-based mind-body programs in the United States.
Dr. Borysenko is also known for her tender exploration of the human spirit—what kindles it and what snuffs it out. Founder of Mind-Body Health Sciences, LLC in Boulder, CO and the author of 15 books, she is a perennially popular national and international speaker. Gordon Dveirin Ed.D
Gordon Dveirin, Ed.D. is a consultant in organizational coherence and staff development for Avalon by the Sea.
Dr. Dveirin’s B.A. and M.A. degrees are from the University of Colorado. As an Ontario Provincial Doctoral Fellow at the University of Toronto and its Centre for Culture and Technology, he studied with Professor Marshall McLuhan. Shifting the focus of his interest to the skilled facilitation of organizational and social change, Dveirin earned his Ed.D. in organization development and psychology from the School of Educational Change and Development at the University of Northern Colorado.
President of Dveirin and Associates, an organization and human development consulting firm, his clients have ranged from hospitals and investment firms to the Smithsonian Institution and the military. He is also a spiritual educator and co-author of two books: Saying Yes to Change and Your Soul’s Compass: What is Spiritual Guidance.
Co-founder of The Claritas Institute for Interspiritual Inquiry, which provides training in spiritual mentoring, he is also a founding board member of the Passageworks Institute dedicated to the social, emotional, and spiritual learning of children and youth in our schools.
