Navigating Relationships When Struggling With Mental Health

At Avalon Malibu, we’re familiar with a variety of different mental health topics. However, one topic that’s not often discussed is navigating relationships when you’re struggling with your mental health. In this blog, we’re going to go over some of the ways that you can be intentional about taking care of your relationships when you’re going through a rough mental health period. Are you ready to get started?

Navigating Relationships

If you’re struggling to take care of your relationships, you’re not alone. There are so many people who don’t know how to protect their relationships when they go through a difficult mental health period. Below are some of the things we recommend here at Avalon Malibu when our clients want to improve their relationships.

Be Honest

One of the best things that you can do is be honest. Reaching out to your friends and family to let them know that you’re struggling is a great way to provide an explanation for why you may not be as involved currently. It can also be an opportunity for them to provide you with support and understand a little bit about what you are going through.

Set Aside Time

Setting aside time for your relationships is a great way to be intentional. Consider setting aside a day when you can send some texts and reach out to the people that you’re close with. This can be a great way to make sure that you remember to reach out and having a day set aside can provide you with some peace of mind.

If you’re struggling to reach out, know that you’re not alone. There are so many people who don’t have the emotional capacity to reach out and that’s okay. With that being said, it may give you a helpful, positive boost to your mental state if you decide to reach out to others and find a helpful community.
