Guide to Suicide Prevention: Understanding and Taking Action

Suicide prevention is an important topic and it’s one that we’re passionate about at Avalon Malibu. The unfortunate reality is that suicide prevention isn’t a topic that’s widely discussed. In this blog, we’re going to go over some suicide prevention strategies, as well as some resources to consult if you or someone you know is considering suicide.

Suicide Prevention

One of the unfortunate things that must be considered when it comes to suicide prevention is that this is a topic that still has a lot of stigma attached. By fostering open, honest conversations on this topic, we can remind people that they’re not alone. Reducing the stigma associated with this topic is one of the first things that must be done in order to save lives.

Suicide prevention is something that should be taken seriously. Learning about suicide prevention could end up saving someone’s life, so this is an important topic and one that should be discussed more often in communities.

Another important thing when it comes to suicide prevention is being aware of all the different specialized resources out there. We do provide mental health services here at Avalon Malibu, but there are other resources that you can consult if you need immediate help.

Resources

There are a few different resources that you can consider if you’re in a situation with someone who’s considering harming themselves. One of the first options is to call 911. This can be a good option if you need physical help immediately.

Another good resource to consider is calling or texting 988. This is the number that will connect you to the suicide and crisis lifeline. When you call or text this number, you’ll be connected with a trained expert who can provide you with specialized advice. This number is a great one to memorize because you never know when you’ll be in a situation in which it’s needed.

If you or someone you know is struggling with suicidal thoughts, you’re not alone. There are so many different resources available and we’d love to point you in the right direction. If you’d like to speak with a mental health professional about this topic, you can do so by calling (844) 857-5992. We’ll connect you with a member of our team who can provide you with some more information about not only this topic but also the services that we provide here at Avalon Malibu.
