Improving Body Image

Body image is a complicated topic. At Avalon Malibu, we strongly believe in the importance of having a healthy body image, as this can impact your overall mental health. In this blog, we’re going to go over some things you can do if you’ve been struggling with your body image lately. As always, don’t hesitate to reach out to our Avalon Malibu staff if you have further questions or would like to discuss treatment options.

Changing Your Body Image

There are a few different things you can do if you want to improve your body image. Take a look at the following options and see if any of them could be right for you.

Body Neutrality

While many people want to have an entirely positive view of their bodies, it’s also okay to feel neutral about your body. Body neutrality can be a powerful tool, especially when you’re going through a rough patch.

Gratitude

If you’re struggling with a certain area of your body, consider being grateful for it and thinking about all the various things you can do. For example, if you don’t like the way your legs look, consider being grateful that they allow you to go on hikes or dance.

Shifting your thoughts to things that you’re grateful for can be a powerful way to reframe your thinking and get the results that you’re looking for. Writing down the things you’re grateful for can be a great way to see everything on paper and organize your various thoughts.

Perspective Shift

Consider treating yourself like you’d treat a friend. Would you say awful things about your friend’s body? Probably not. This perspective shift can be one that’s extremely beneficial. Taking some time to think about ways that you can be kinder to yourself is an excellent way to make sure that you’re on the right track and that you’re doing what you can to improve your body image.
