What Do We Treat?
We are one of the only residential treatment centers in California qualified to treat mental health and psychiatric illnesses where these concerns are the primary diagnosis.
We focus on treating our mental health clients by teaching them ways to cope with daily life and helping them take control of their disorder. We also treat a number of other disorders and behavioral problems, such as addiction, eating disorders and dual diagnoses (e.g., co-occurring depression and substance abuse).
Unlike other treatment centers, we also view mental health disorders as a primary diagnosis for addiction. While many other treatment centers will attempt to treat addiction on a surface level, our therapists assess the underlying mental health issues that might be contributing to your current condition.
Some of the mental health disorders we treat at Avalon Malibu include:
- Anxiety

What Luxury Mental Health Treatment Means at Avalon Malibu
Luxury mental health treatment is not defined by amenities alone. At Avalon Malibu, luxury reflects the ability to provide focused, individualized care within a small, controlled environment that supports clinical consistency and therapeutic engagement.
A limited census allows clinicians to maintain close involvement in each individual’s care and adjust treatment thoughtfully as clinical needs evolve. Privacy, space, and structure reduce external stressors and allow individuals to focus fully on assessment, therapy, and stabilization.
This approach is particularly important for individuals who have not benefited from standardized treatment models or who require a more nuanced level of psychiatric and therapeutic support.
How Mental Health and Addiction are Related: Dual Diagnosis
Mental health disorders are often difficult to recognize and, as a result, may go untreated. Symptoms can develop slowly or appear suddenly, which makes it easy to overlook the signs until they become overwhelming. Without proper treatment, many people turn to drugs or alcohol as a way to cope. While this may provide short-term relief, it often leads to addiction, dependence, and even more complex problems over time.
Substance use not only fails to solve the underlying issues but can also worsen or trigger new mental health conditions by disrupting brain chemistry. This cycle of addiction and emotional distress often results in what’s known as a dual diagnosis, when a person struggles with both mental health and substance use disorders. True recovery requires treating both conditions together so that healing is complete and lasting.
At Avalon Malibu, we specialize in dual diagnosis care and understand how essential it is to address the root causes of both mental health struggles and substance use. Our facility is fully licensed to treat both mental health and substance use disorders, offering comprehensive, and integrated care that is truly rare to find.
Our team takes the time to get to know you, creating a treatment plan that supports you, strengthens your self-confidence, and helps you build the foundation for a healthy, fulfilled life. We also ensure you have a strong aftercare plan in place, so your progress continues long after you leave. With Avalon Malibu, you won’t just find treatment, you’ll find a partner in your lifelong recovery journey.
Psychiatrist-Led, Individualized Treatment Planning
A defining feature of Avalon Malibu’s mental health program is its psychiatrist-led clinical model. Psychiatric services are integrated into treatment planning and ongoing care rather than limited to intake or periodic consultation.
Board-certified psychiatrists provide evaluation, diagnostic clarification, and medication management when clinically indicated. Psychiatric oversight allows the treatment team to monitor symptom progression, medication response, and overall stability throughout the course of residential care.
This level of psychiatric involvement is particularly important for individuals with complex presentations, treatment-resistant symptoms, or co-occurring conditions where careful diagnostic refinement and collaboration are essential.
Psychiatric leadership works closely with therapists and the broader clinical team to ensure that therapeutic interventions, medication decisions, and recovery planning remain aligned.
Evidence-Based Therapy Within a Residential Setting
Avalon Malibu’s luxury mental health treatment program is grounded in evidence-based practices selected based on clinical appropriateness and individualized treatment planning.
Therapeutic approaches may include cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), trauma-informed care, and psychodynamic therapy. These modalities are applied thoughtfully, with attention to readiness, emotional safety, and clinical goals.
The residential setting supports this work by providing structure, consistency, and protection from external demands. Reduced distractions and a predictable daily rhythm allow individuals to engage more fully in therapy and integrate therapeutic insights into daily practice.
A Private Residential Environment That Supports Treatment Engagement
Avalon Malibu provides mental health treatment within a private residential environment designed to support engagement, stabilization, and continuity of care. Operating across two adjacent residential homes allows the program to maintain a small census while offering flexibility in care delivery.
This structure supports:
• Individualized attention
• Consistent clinical oversight
• Privacy and discretion
• Psychological safety
The residential environment is intentionally designed to support treatment rather than distract from it. The focus remains on clinical care, emotional regulation, and therapeutic participation.
Mental Health Treatment for Professionals and High-Responsibility Roles
Many individuals seeking luxury mental health treatment at Avalon Malibu hold demanding professional roles or carry significant personal responsibilities. Performance pressure, chronic stress, and burnout can complicate mental health symptoms and make engagement in treatment more challenging.
Our program is structured to support individuals who require discretion, privacy, and a controlled environment in which to focus on mental health care. Treatment planning considers cognitive load, stress tolerance, and the need for psychological safety while maintaining appropriate clinical boundaries.
This approach allows professionals to engage meaningfully in care without unnecessary exposure or disruption.
Integrated Care for Mental Health and Co-Occurring Conditions
Mental health symptoms and substance use concerns often influence one another. Avalon Malibu’s treatment model supports individuals with co-occurring conditions through an integrated approach that addresses both mental health and substance use within a single residential program.
Rather than separating services, treatment planning considers how symptoms interact and how stabilization in one area may support progress in another. Psychiatric oversight and coordinated clinical care reduce fragmentation and support continuity throughout treatment.
Continuity of Care and Ongoing Clinical Support
Luxury mental health treatment at Avalon Malibu is designed to support not only stabilization during residential care, but also sustained progress following discharge.
Treatment planning emphasizes skill development, emotional regulation, and insight that can be carried forward into continued care. Transition planning and coordination with outpatient providers may be incorporated to support continuity and reduce disruption after residential treatment.
This focus on continuity reflects a commitment to long-term stability rather than short-term intervention alone.
How Avalon Malibu’s Mental Health Program Is Structured
Avalon Malibu’s luxury mental health treatment program is intentionally structured to support depth of care rather than volume.
Key elements include:
• Small census residential setting
• Psychiatrist-led clinical oversight
• Individualized treatment pacing
• Integrated therapeutic and psychiatric care
• Ongoing review of treatment plans
This structure allows the clinical team to remain closely engaged and responsive to each individual’s needs throughout treatment.
A Distinct Approach to Luxury Mental Health Treatment
What distinguishes Avalon Malibu’s luxury mental health treatment program is the integration of clinical rigor, individualized residential care, and a private environment designed to support meaningful engagement in treatment.
As a state-licensed residential treatment center providing services for mental health, substance use disorders, and co-occurring conditions, Avalon Malibu offers an approach designed for individuals seeking depth, discretion, and clinically grounded care within a structured residential setting.
